Authorities report they have dismantled an global gang believed of smuggling as many as forty thousand snatched handsets from the UK to the Far East over the past year.

In what law enforcement calls the United Kingdom's biggest initiative against mobile device theft, 18 suspects have been detained and over 2,000 snatched handsets located.

Authorities think the syndicate could be culpable for exporting up to one half of all mobile devices taken in the capital - where the majority of phones are taken in the UK.

The Inquiry Initiated by An Individual Phone

The probe was triggered after a victim tracked a stolen phone last year.

The incident occurred on December 24th and a person electronically tracked their pilfered Apple device to a warehouse close to Heathrow Airport, a detective revealed. The personnel there was keen to cooperate and they found the handset was in a box, alongside another 894 phones.

The men, the two Afghan nationals in their mid-adulthood, were indicted with conspiring to handle pilfered items and working together to disguise or move criminal property.

Upon their apprehension, dozens of phones were discovered in their vehicle, and about an additional 2,000 phones were discovered at locations connected to them. A third man, a 29-year-old person from India, has subsequently been indicted with the identical crimes.
