Christantus Uche Ignites Comfortable Crystal Palace Win at Shelbourne.
Despite entering their maiden European campaign, Oliver Glasner's side are adapting very quickly. Without key figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a comfortable result that all but secures them a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
Another three points in their next fixture against Finland's KuPS ought to be enough to seal direct passage to the last 16, especially after a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This match provided a platform for several Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a well-taken finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second game in succession.
The Shelbourne team that had finished their league season were no match against a largely second-string Palace outfit. The Londoners were further depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg injuries.
Control Established from the Outset
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly took control. A flowing move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, fizzing a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the referee dismissed the appeals.
Ex-Arsenal striker did not have wait long to find his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's shot had hit the post.
The home side were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for two agricultural challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring with his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, indicating there is still room for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect night for the visiting side.
