Exploring an Unique Steam Demo: Playing as a Turdy Character in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have found a variety of interesting independent titles. But, one stands out for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a character that is truly a piece of poop striving to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: press a one button to leap. Throughout 150 stages, you'll face boss fights and access a shop to acquire skins for your fecal avatar.

Plan your movements with caution, since one wrong move requires starting over. Bounce on floating orbs to hurl the poop higher, navigate disappearing platforms, and interact with buttons to reveal new areas. Collect coins for buying tougher stages in which the action ramps up.

In terms of design, the demo boasts neon level designs and an amazing music score. The simple visual style with shifting basic polygons may remind players of old favorites like Earthbound.

While it's tough to recall previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as plant food. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable awards, including winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the final release scheduled to debut on PC on November 19.
